If you use fentanyl, you can possibly REDUCE YOUR RISK OF DEATH if you...
Because fentanyl is so strong, a little goes a long way compared to heroin. And overdose can occur quickly sometimes before you finish injecting the dose.
Injecting carries the highest risk for overdose so since shifting to snorting or most preferably smoking my help reduce risk. You can still overdose by smoking or snorting, especially with fentanyl, so start slow.
Give yourself time between doses. Fentanyl acts fast, but it's different for everyone, and depending on the dose and your tolerance it may not hit you as fast as you expect.
Create a buddy system to have someone check on you if you like using alone. That way if you overdose someone can intervene.
Make sure someone is always alert and that at least one person has naloxone/ Narcan on them.
Knowing what in your drugs can help you decide how much and how best to use them.
Be familiar with the signs of an overdose and be prepared to respond with naloxone, no matter what drug you're using. You don't know if it has been laced.
You overall health impacts your overdose risk. Hydrate, eat, and rest as much as possible.
